General Information

Vision/Mission Statement

The primary purpose of the continuation high school at Carlsbad Village Academy is credit recovery. Students who are behind in credits toward graduating with their class may transfer voluntarily to CVA where the trimester schedule allows them to earn 90 credits per year.  Once students have remediated credit deficiencies, they may elect to either return to Carlsbad High School or remain at CVA.

Carlsbad Village Academy

Carlsbad Village Academy is one of three alternative education programs in the Carlsbad Unifed school District. All three programs are operated/run from the front office at Carlsbad Village Academy.

Continuation High School

Grade level: 10-12

The primary purpose of the Continuation High School at Carlsbad Village Academy is credit recovery.  Students who are behind in credits toward graduating with their class may transfer voluntarily to CVA where the trimester schedule allows them to earn 90 credits per year. Small class sizes (average 20) and a smaller setting (fewer than 150 students) facilitate individualized and differentiated instruction.  Once students have remediated credit deficiencies, they may elect to either return to Carlsbad High School or to remain at CVA.  Transfers from CVA to CHS are possible only at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters. Transfers from CHS to CVA may occur at any time during the school year.

Home Education

Grade Level: 9th - 12th grade

The Independent Study program provides and educational alternative for secondary students who have the ability, study skills, motivation, and self-discipline to learn independently under the supervision and support of a credentialed secondary education teacher who assigns and evaluates all coursework.  Independent Study students may desire an accelerated learning program, a flexible schedule to pursue a career goal, or may simply learn better in an independent program with one-to-one interactions with a master teacher.

Home/Hospital Program

Grade Level: 9th - 12th grade

Home/Hospital Instruction is designed to assist students over temporary periods of illness or injury while the student is at home and unable to attend school.  The instruction is provided by certificated teachers who tutor the students one-to-one until they are able to  return to their regular instructional program.  A physician's written recommendation on the District approved form (available from the Carlsbad Village Academy administration office) is required.
